School Floor Maintenance

What are the best ways to maintain school floors? Regular, scheduled commercial cleaning will achieve the best results and there are steps that can be implemented to maintain and preserve surfaces in between your scheduled cleans. Here are a few considerations:

1) Utilize commercial, industrial mats. Entry mats pick up dirt, salt and grime on footwear before it goes further into the building. Because entries are high traffic areas, having multiple mats outside is a good strategy. There are plenty of variations of mats available, some that are specifically designed to minimize the possibility for mobility challenges.

2. Reseal Hard Flooring
Hard flooring used in the school gym, hallways, classrooms will require routine resealing. After completing a reseal, it's best to use eco-friendly or natural cleaners during daily/nightly floor mopping. Generally, schools look at resealing their floors once per year.

3. Reschedule Cleaning Maintenance and Reassess Equipment
The janitorial staff should have regular scheduled cleaning duties that may include tasks like vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping. Depending on the time of year, floors may seem dirtier and these tasks may need to be done more frequently. Inspect current equipment and cleaning products to ensure they are effective, and have a preventative maintenance schedule on upgrades to products and equipment.
